The Emmys 2012 Red Carpet Superlatives

Okay, I’ll admit it, I didn’t actually watch the Emmys last night (I don’t have a television and therefore had to “watch” it vicariously through my Twitter feed –  which is actually pretty effective by the way). I did, however, make sure to scroll through all of the red carpet photos of my favorite actresses to check for some style inspiration. Below are my 2012 Primetime Emmys Awards Red Carpet Superlatives with some winners, losers and major shockers…

Pint-Sized Style Star: Kiernan Shipka in Zac Posen

Kiernan Shipka (who you may also know as the not-so-little-anymore Sally Draper on Mad Men) is seriously one to watch not only on the television screen but also on the red carpets. At only twelve years old, she has style sense beyond her years – and this Zac Posen number was no exception (seriously, what twelve-year-old wears Zac Posen??). Also, she’s already been on The Coveteur in case you were wondering.

Most Anti-Climactic Fashion Moment: Lena Duham in Prada

The very first tweet I saw about the Emmys was that Girls actor/writer/producer/prodigy, Lena Dunham, was wearing Prada. I actually squealed in excitement as I Googled (what a perfect pair!) and then I saw this. I really, really wanted to love it, but the more I gazed at my computer screen, it became apparent that this just wasn’t working. Her hair and makeup are perfect and the lace should be cool (it really should) but something is off. I want to say it’s the cut of the dress. Don’t you feel like it would have been way better as a high-neck halter or something? Anything?

The Greatest Golden Girl: Claire Danes in Lanvin

Yellow was apparently the color of the red carpet last night. And although Julie Bowen and Julianne Moore were top contenders in the golden hue category, Claire Danes definitely takes the prize on this one. The silhouette is easy and elegant and the hue is saturated to just the right amount of brightness. I’m glad to see that Angela Chase has finally moved out of her grunge stage – oh wait.

The You’re So Gorgeous That Even a Terrible Mermaid Glitter Dress Can Look Good on You Award: Sofia Vergara in Zuhair Murad

This just wasn’t doing it for me for so many reasons (that strap situation, the awkward cutout, the sequins on sequins on sequins) but Sofia Vergara is the embodiment of human perfection and therefore, still looked amazing in what would have otherwise been a Little Mermaid gone bad type of situation on anyone else. Which of course, deserves some kind of recognition. I just think she has so much more potential, you know?

The Girl of all Girls: Zosia Mamet in Bibhu Mohapetra

Although Allison Williams was stunning in Oscar de La Renta, Zosia Mamet was the real showstopper not only out of the entire Girls cast but I would also dare to say out of the whole red carpet. It was just the perfect mix of classic and cool. Audrey Hepburn a la Breakfast at Tiffanys meets Tilda Swinton in real life – maybe? Let’s go with it. All I can say is that she was definitely not pulling a Shosh last night.
