“This season, I’m all about volume when it comes to dresses. I think this is a great coffee to cocktails type of piece to play with for fall. I’d wear these with a pair of flat boots and a thick cardi at the office. Then for night, I’d play it up with some laced up booties and some bold jewelry.” -Kelly, OTY Fashion Editor

“Like most of us, I associate fall with new beginnings. In the case of fashion, that means an opportunity to take a bigger risk with my wardrobe. Now that I’ve moved off my college campus and into the (sort of) real word, I have the freedom to experiment a bit more. I love the texture trend this fall and I can’t wait to layer leather, knits, and maybe even some faux fur (if I’m feeling extra daring).” – Emily, OTY Beauty Editor

“For fall time, I love the staple closet piece, the blazer. Especially around this time when the weather starts to change and get cooler, I love to pull out my blazers because they keep you warm as well as keep you stylish! Because I love variety, blazers are the perfect accessory for me because they can be worn either casually or dressy, one colored or a variety of patterns. A versatile piece, pair your blazer with leggings, shorts, skirts, or even just jeans to make a one of a kind look. Here are some style inspiration pictures from how Howard University students wear their blazers for fall!” – Jame’, OTY Contributor

“Opulent dress was one of my fave fall trends because it can easily transition from day to night, which suits my busy lifestyle. I like to experiment with color and texture so I will be mixing brocade pants with velvet shoes. Taking inspiration from Dolce & Gabbana, I will be completing the look with an intricate headband.” – Heather, OTY Contributor

“I’m in love with this fall’s baroque trend. While I think the baroque print looks amazing on a blazer or jacket, I will adopt the trend in a dress since dresses are the most comfortable garment to wear in year-round sunny Malaysia. Although the print is already loud, I decided to pair it with a statement necklace to match my liking for all things funky, edgy and uncommon.” – Lilian, OTY Contributor

“Often, my style tends to come across as, “girly”, which is why I love leather. Leather adds that edge that I am lacking. This fall, I am loving adding accents of the fabric to my everyday looks. From the collar of blouses to fall shorts and skirts, you can incorporate the trend without looking like Cat Woman. Also, many stores carry vegan versions, which is always a plus in my book.” – Calli, OTY Contributor

“The military trend is definitely my favourite for this season, there are so many variations on the trend it’s impossible for you to not find something that suits your personality and lifestyle. I prefer to wear the trend in a subtle way opting for a belted trench coat for colder days, which is perfect for my hourglass body shape as it emphasises my waist. Or alternatively I’d pair a sheer mossy green blouse with a pair of high waist trousers and military boots. A combat jacket gives instant military chic and since I like to mix feminine pieces with edgier ones I think it would look great with a lace skater dress and tan accessories.” – Rebecca, OTY Contributor

How I Wear Fall Trends 2012: Metallic Lace Skirt

Lace skirts were all over the runways this year and, accordingly they’re all over the racks this fall. This skirt from Clements Ribeiro is lovely, but pretty pricey. I scored my metallic lace skirt at a thrift store and cut out the lining to make it sheer. I wear black leggings under it and pair with a simple black turtleneck sweater and my trusty black lace-up boots. A top knot and dark wine lips add the finishing touches. I like the metallic lace because it gives the girly textile a bit of the edge that I like to sprinkle into my wardrobe. Plus, the touch of gold in this skirt keeps my basic blacks from being too dark or dull.” Mary, OTY Executive Editor
