Style Olympics: Larry Talks Tennessee

I’m from Brentwood, a suburb of Nashville, Tennessee that has a pretty homogeneous Southern, preppy style. When I was younger, I would always try to emulate that look. During high school however, I became more interested in high fashion. I started to develop my own personal style, one that was much different from most of my peers. I would describe myself as having sort of a hippie-boho style, but with an edge. I love skinny jeans, boots, prints, and lots of accessories! I am really inspired by bold designers such as Versace and Balmain, and stylish celebrities like Rihanna. I have a daring personality, and a style to match.
I think of traditional fashion where I’m from as being almost sort of a uniform. Most people throughout history used to dress according to their occupation or to fit into their surroundings, and were not really given much room to play with personal style. Fashion was a luxury only afforded to the rich. Fortunately, this has shifted over the decades and style is becoming a pleasure for people of all walks of life.
To me, contemporary fashion is all about freedom and expression. Fashion has never been so accessible before, and people in the modern era are able to draw from all sorts of people and places for style inspiration. I think the people of today are able to experiment with fashion and their way of dress, and I think it’s a fabulous thing.
