What’s Your Signature Summer Lip Shade?
The shift from spring to summer means more than just a change in temperature. Once our hair gets a bit lighter and our skin a little more sun-kissed, our choice of beauty must-haves tends to transform too. And with all that extra vitamin D comes the temptation to try out some brighter hues. Read on to see what our contributors have to say about their essential summer lip shades, and then head over to the OTY Style Exchange to share your own favorites.
I really love Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Pink Petal. I always like a hot pink shade, especially during summertime, but I find this one gives a pop of color without being too much. With Smashbox, I always find that their products stay on a long time and I appreciate the durability, particularly with lipstick.
During the summer, I’ve got to go with a coral shade. I tend to choose Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti (015) for day wear, and MAC Amplified Lipstick in shade Vegas Volt (A22) for an evening look. Tutti Frutti is more like a coloured balm than a lipstick, and it keeps my lips hydrated throughout the day, while Vegas Volt is more full on color, and really makes a statement. It’s easy to apply, and I find that it lasts for quite a few hours so I don’t need to make touch-ups as often.
In the summer time, I either shoot for a really bold lip, or a simple nude. For a bold lip, I love Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Berry Haute 660, which is almost like a light purple. When worn, it doesn’t appear too bright, making it a great color for day or night. It’s also quite buildable, so the more you apply, the darker the purple gets. A quick swipe will really add a nice color to the lips.
My summer color is Revlon Super Lustrous Lip gloss in Coral Reef, an amazing apricot shade that enhances your summer tan. It has just the right amount of pink, so you don’t have to worry about it being too orange. It also contains SPF 15, so your lips will be moisturized and protected!
My signature lip shade this summer is a bright pink. I’m in love with Make Up Forever Rouge Artist Intense #37, which packs more color than traditional lipsticks (it has 50% more pigment), so all it takes is one swipe for pretty pink puckers! This color brings out the natural pink tones of my face, and stays on for a long time, so reapplying isn’t necessary for hours. It has a matte finish, so the color doesn’t look over the top with extra sheen. Just wearing it makes me cheery, and I love how I can keep the rest of my make up minimal and still stand out.
This year, I’ve become a huge fan of classic coral. I tend to lean towards the pinker end of the spectrum, and Korres Pomegranate Lip Butter is the perfect fit. Not only is the sheer wash of color totally buildable, but it silky smooth texture feels amazing against my sunburned summer lips. Korres products are also notoriously natural, and formulated without any synthetic fragrances, sulfates or parabens.
Purple pouts were all over the spring/summer runways (like at my favorite, Prabal Gurung). Wanting to go a slightly less dramatic route, I scouted out a lighter, pinker version of the color. Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Divine perfectly compliments my rosy complexion and keeps my lips super moisturized for hours on end. Perfect for a bold day at the office or standing out after hours.
