Resort 2013 Inspiration: Stay Cool With Oscar De La Renta’s Summer Suiting

Staying stylish throughout the summer months can become difficult when it’s sweltering. What’s even worse is when you’re working a nine to five everyday and tossing on the old pair of denim cutoffs is simply not an option. Lucky for all the working women out there, Oscar de la Renta (the master of classic chic) has recently released a Resort 2013 collection that happens to solve the exact problem I just described. I’m calling the solution Summer Suiting.

What better way to approach this than with a nautical theme? Blue’s and navy’s were all over Oscar’s runway combined with sharply tailored menswear silhouettes. The trick here is in the light layering that is then jazzed up with feminine accessories.

How to Do It:
To start, you’ll need a pair of office-appropriate shorts (i.e. not hot pants). Try to look for thicker lace fabrics or subtle pleats. Tuck in a basic silk tank or sleeveless blouse and layer with a light cardigan or open blazer. For shoes, try a pair of espadrille wedges or patent loafers (remember it’s about comfort, so nothing too high). When it comes to accessorizing, I like how warm golds and oranges play off of the cooler blue and navy palette. Do a large, fold-over clutch and try thick, plastic bangles or chunky, femme earrings. Top it all off with an oversized pair of sunglasses.

Now get to work! Or maybe call in sick and take that sail boat out for spin since you’re looking so chic…
