Resort 2013 Inspiration: Rachel Roy Shows Us How to Do Modern Day Mod

It seems as if the New Mrs. Draper Effect has made its way over to the fashion industry. And by that I am referring to the latest style star (and wife) of AMC’s Mad Men, Megan Draper. Clad in colorful ’60s ensembles from episode to episode, it was only a matter of time before a designer revamped Megan’s look for the 21st century woman. And let’s be thankful it was Rachel Roy – someone who knows a thing or two about feminine dressing.

The model for the Resort 2013 collection is most certainly a Megan look-a-like, just check out that brown bob and French je ne sais quoi. Roy’s reinterpretation of the clothing, however, was not left exclusively in the past. With sharp tailoring, simple pairings and a well-articulated color palette, take this as an equation for building an effortlessly chic summer wardrobe.

How to Do It:
White is always a great base for the warmer months. To try a mod look, scope out a shift dress or color-blocked blouse. Solid, bright pants and shorts are also key building blocks for a summer outfit. They can easily be paired with – another staple – the light, floral shirt. When it comes to shoes, all you really need to don are metallic oxfords by day and chunky sandals by night. Accessorizing is also simple with thick, silver jewelry and streamlined clutches.

You’re set to channel some ’60s mod. And hey, maybe you’ll even feel like  performing a little Zou Bisou Bisou
