Resolutions (a.k.a. Wishlists!) for 2012

In my opinion the new year begins in the spring. The start a new calendar year, however, is also a good time to take a look around and decide how exactly you want to steer your life through the world. One way to effect your direction is with your image. Like it or not, how you present yourself has an effect on how you experience the world. That’s why this year I’m reserving some space on my list of resolutions for a carefully curated style wishlist. 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10
I’m turning 32 this year and feeling the urge to start truly developing my “grown-up” wardrobe. This means investing in items that might not have a lot of trend appeal, but are high quality staple items that I’ll have in my closet for years to come. Things like a basic pair of black pumps are essential in looking sharp for those infrequent or unexpected occasions when looking understated and professional will serve you best. I work in a creative industry where neon-flares are an everday option, but now and then a slick pencil skirt will be just the thing I need. A minimal-leaning handbag that’s quiet enough for an office, but stylish enough for a lunch date will be the perfect addition to my wardrobe; and a nice watch will help me conceal the small tattoo on my wrist – just in case!
My plans to up my career game don’t mean staying put, though. I want to be active and on the go! This means a good pair of stylish sneakers to run around town in is a must; and it would nice to have a tablet like the new Kindle, with something cute to carry it in, so I can stay connected while I’m out and about. My phone conversations are going to be fruitful and fun with this red handset, which connects to cell phones and anything with a headphone jack. Travel is also on the agenda and, while I can get away will savvy layering in the mildness that is Atlanta, places like NYC and Chicago call for an actual cold-weather coat. Of course, my sights are set simply within U.S. borders. I’ll be taking my international trips in style with a chic red passport holder.

Passport Holder
I plan to apply for jobs abroad after my college graduation this Spring. My number one travel accessory is my passport and it should be handled with care.
Hair Mask
I have been battling with my hair for two years now to grow out. I refuse to lose the battle this year with hair products like this conditioning hair mask, for a long and healthy 2012.
Friendship Bracelets
I love Frieda and Nellie bracelets. These mixed vintage and modern pieces are a great reminder to keep in contact with the friends I have and remember to make new ones along my way.
Skin Care Kit
2012 has the potential to be an exciting, fast paced year for me. An exciting lifestyle calls for an efficient skin care regime so I can stay in the clear.
Cookware Set
I love to cook, but rarely find the time. This chic set of pots and pans from Anthropologie might just be the trick that lures me back into my kitchen.
Day to Night Dress
A dress like this tangerine number can be rocked at a daytime concert festival or out on the town with friends. Versatile pieces like this can make having a little fun with friends a little easier this new year, not to mention the color puts my LBD’s to shame.
Sketch Book
I love to draw, but find little time. This sketchbook can fit easily in my bag so I can occupy my time sketching on trains, planes, or during downtime.
Duffle Bag
A wonderful holiday can lead to a little extra around the waist. Hitting the gym with this sporty bag will not only help me shed my recent excess pounds, but keep me healthy and happy all year long.
Perfume
To quote the woman herself, “A woman who doesn’t wear perfume, has no future.” Coco Chanel Mademoiselle is my favorite scent.

1. Get Fit
Last fall I purchased a 10-pack of yoga classes, but by November I had begun to trade my morning downward dog for an extra hour or two of z’s. This year I’m determined to jump back on the yoga bandwagon, and these plush pants will make it all that much easier.
2. Go Natural
As someone who’s always struggled with their skin, I’ve wanted to make the switch to natural beauty products for a while. This year I plan to get rid of the old, gunky products that plague my makeup bag and replace them with something fresh. Korres receives countless rave reviews, and their plum lip butter is first on my must-try list.
3. Invest in a Classic
With my college career coming to a close, it’s important to invest in pieces that can easily transition into my professional wardrobe. The first item in desperate need of up an upgrade is my dated Coach wallet. It’s baby-pink interior doesn’t exactly scream chic, but this camel Tory Burch replacement will never go out of style.
4. Shield my Skin
I’ve heard it a thousand times: wear sunscreen. While I usual opt to ignore this advice in exchange for that “healthy glow,” this year I’m determined to change my ways, which means wearing a significant SPF year-round. I’m sure my skin will thank me later.
5. Take a Risk
Some may call me a jewelry minimalist, but the truth is I just won’t wear a something I’m not in love with it. For me, 2012 means jumping out of my comfort zone and expanding my horizons. This octopus ring might not have been center stage in 2011, but this year I’m feeling drawn to its bright hues and unique design.
6. Take Time to Write
Last year could easily be labeled my busiest yet, which made finding time to write difficult. These classic Moleskin notebooks come in every size and color, allowing me to always have one on hand. Here’s to filling the pages of 2012 with inspiration and observation.

Shirt & High Waist Shorts
In 2012 I want to experiment more with fashion, buy things that maybe I wouldn’t usually buy. Hopefully by the end of the year my wardrobe will be over flowing with a variety of garments and not just floral dresses and cardigans.
Swimsuits & Bodycon Dresses
This year is all about becoming the best version of myself possible, I want to lose weight and get beach and bikini ready. I also want to invest in a dress that I don’t necessarily wear out, but can put on at home when I’m having a down day that will instantly make me feel sexy, confident and give myself a little boost.
Running Trainers & Sports Wear
Health and fitness are high priorities for me this year, and by purchasing running trainers and sports wear I’ll be able to become fitter over time and therefore healthier. Running shoes will also ensure that I not only use the gym but go for daily jogs around my neighbourhood.
Bold Lipsticks
I want to learn more about make up, how to wear bold lipsticks without looking to over the top. Tips and tricks for flawless skin. As well as perfecting my signature day/night look.
Overall I think these items will help me become happier, more confident, and hopefully once I learn to love myself, I’ll find someone else to love too.

This year, I would really like to start getting into the habit of writing more – jotting down my inspirations, memories and maybe even a few fictional stories while I’m at it. I love this floral journal from Anthropologie because it’s tiny enough to throw into my purse wherever I go!
Speaking of purses, since I’m going to be graduating from college in the coming months (entering the professional world and all) I am also going to be on the lookout for a great structured investment bag in 2012. This big tote by Foley and Corinna is a front runner.
Next on my list for this year is to finally get a good pair of sneakers. I’m motivated to stay in shape (and still look stylish at the gym) by making running a daily commitment in 2012!
I tend to keep my makeup routine rather simple, but this year I want to experiment more with bold colors and new application techniques. This NARS trio eyeshadow palette would be a great starter, I’m really digging the silver and cobalt blue color combination.
Last but not least there’s this Kate Spade “Go The Extra Mile” bangle that literally defines my life as a New Yorker (running up and down town five to ten times a day). I’ve had my eye on it for quite some time now and think I will treat myself the next time I make a big accomplishment in 2012.
