Skin Type Tips: Finding the Right Sunscreen
| Tweet |
This time of year many of us spend a lot of time outdoors – at the park, at the beach, at outdoor sporting events, and sometimes just in your own yard enjoy the weather.
Enjoying the sun, however, can turn into a big pain if you’re not careful about protecting your skin. Besides avoiding the sting of getting burnt, studies (and history!) show that excessive exposure to the sun can cause wrinkles and sometimes more serious conditions.
So in the interest of putting your best “face” forward, choose to wear sunscreen – but not just any! For your face choose one that’s best suited to your skin type.
Oily
When you’ve always dealt with too much oil on your skin, the last thing you want to do is slather oil on your face. When choosing a product, look for things buzzwords like oil-free, water-based and non-comedegenic.
Dry
Dry skin may work out fine in your younger years because it’s less prone to acne, but later in life dry skin is often the culprit for premature aging. So do your skin a double favor by choosing a sunscreen that protects AND has ingredients that will add and lock in moisture.
Acne
Blemishes could be the result of oily skin, but they might also be caused by skin sensitivity. Definitely choose light-weight products and look for formulas with salicylic acid and those made for sensitive skin – especially if you are on any acne-fighting medications.
Aging
Sign of maturing of the skin can start at early as in your 20s – especially if your skin tends to be dry. Always be sure to get a product that shields again both UVA and UVB rays, otherwise known as “broad spectrum.” Some sunscreens only block UVB rays and not UVA, which are repsonsible for premature aging.

Check out what others are saying...[...] For make- up, be sure to keep yours simple and natural looking. There’s nothing less sexy than make-up smeared by sweat and oil. To achieve a sun-kissed look, sweep waterproof mascara over lashes, a swipe of bronzer around your brow and cheek bones, and finish the look with lip gloss for a set of shiny, healthy puckers. Let your hair loose in waves by spraying anti-frizz treatment on hair or take the easy way out and tame hair with a hat. Lastly, don’t forget the most important thing, ladies: always apply sunscreen!
